Located in Hartford CT, The Blind Pig specialises in inventive BBQ pizzas and creative cocktails. It’s a new twist on the traditional pizza joint. Think pizza place meets watering hole, with a speakeasy feel that gets a bit raucous on weekends. They pride themselves on their laid back, non-pretentious cocktails and food. We sat down with Managing Partner, Justin Morales.
Justin has been in the business for 25 years. Starting in front of house, he quickly learned that a good drink is the key to making people happy. A self-professed cocktail nerd – he loves ‘geeking out’ over ingredients – a sense of fun is central to his menu. For his last drink, he would pick a shot of Rye Whiskey (‘if it was an exciting death’) or a Tom Collins (‘if it was a classic death’).
He chooses Brockmans for its unique flavour profile. The classic gin notes of juniper and coriander combine with berries and citrus notes and make it the perfect base for cocktails. This leads us to the drink that Justin created for Brockmans – one of the winners of our Brocktail contest that bagged him a trip to Tales of the Cocktail, named Sunshine on a Cloudy Day.

- 1.75 oz/50ml Brockmans
- .5 oz/15ml Wild Moon Lavender Liqueur
- .25 oz/10ml Merlet Crème de Poire
- 1 basil leaf
- ½ oz/15ml grapefruit juice
- ½ oz/15ml lemon juice
Shake the liquid ingredients with ice. Strain over the basil leaf.
